Dr. Magar’s professional tenure in the Civil and Environmental engineering field spans over 25 years with proficiency in sediment risk management, contaminant fate and transport, technology evaluation, and much more. His technical expertise includes site characterization, sediment remediation and management strategies, fate and transport of bio accumulative organic pollutants and metals in aquatic environments, and field treatability studies. Working as a Network Leader for the Sediment Engineering Practice, Dr. Magar serves as a lead Civil/Environmental engineer for sediment, remediation, and design projects. He also has considerable experience in Monitored Natural Recovery (MNR) as well as other site technologies including sediment beneficial use and restoration of floodplains and wetland environments.
For the past decade, Dr. Magar has been working with PIANC, having chaired two Environmental Commission Working Groups while also acting as the Alternate U.S. Representative for the past 5 years. He chaired both PIANC Working Group 176 – Working with Nature (which led to the WwN Guidance) and Working Group 214 – Sediment Beneficial Use (which led to the Beneficial Use Guidance in 2023).
