Permanent Task Group on Climate Change – Update

Drs. Kate White and Jason Giovannettone attended the most recent face-to-face meeting of the PIANC Permanent Task Group on Climate Change (PTGCC) in Brussels, Belgium, on 30-31 Jan. There were eleven nation members present, including new members from Spain and India. Major topics discussed included finalizing the process of incorporating climate change into PIANC working group reports, how to incorporate climate change into new working group "Terms of Reference", how to proceed with website development, devising a draft schedule for updating the Task Group 3 Report due to the upcoming release of the IPCC 5th Assessment Reports in 2014, and reviews of a few reports including one on "Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Inland Navigation". A significant portion of the meeting was used as a working meeting devoted to finalizing some of the documents that are to be placed on the website. Both Drs. White and Giovannettone also attended the PIANC Environmental Commission (EnviCom) meeting on 31 Jan where they gave an update to the Commission on the status of PTGCC activities.
