Diagnosing the Marine Transportation System – Call for Abstracts

The Committee on the Marine Transportation System, the Transportation Research Board and the Marine Board of the National Academies are co-sponsoring the second biennial R&D conference, Diagnosing the Marine Transportation System: Measuring Performance and Targeting Improvement, from June 26-28th 2012 in Washington, D.C. The first biennial R&D conference was entitled, Transforming the Marine Transportation System: A Vision for Research and Development, and was held in Irvine, CA in 2010.

The conference will serve as a forum to examine the use of performance indicators in maritime transportation and waterways management through collaborative input from stakeholders in government, academia, and the private sector. The goal of the conference is to identify indicators that fully consider the MTS in the context of the overall supply chain. Conference participants will explore how the Marine Transportation System and intermodal connectors perform through the application of performance metrics.

The committee is currently in the process of soliciting abstracts for technical presentations at the conference. More information on the conference and directions for the submittal of abstracts can be found at http://www.trb.org/conferences/metrics2012.aspx You are leaving the PIANC USA web site.
