Call For Abstracts

The Committee on the Marine Transportation System, the Transportation Research Board and the Marine Board of the National Academies are co-sponsoring the second biennial conference on Research and Development in the Marine Transportation System, from June 26-28th 2012 in Washington, D.C.

You are invited to share your knowledge and expertise. If you are interested in presenting relevant research, please submit an abstract of 300 words or less to CMTSmeetings@CMTS.gov by March 31, 2012. Papers are NOT required.

This year’s theme is, Diagnosing the Marine Transportation System: Measuring Performance and Targeting Improvement, in the areas of:

  • Capacity
  • Safety and Security
  • Energy & Environment
  • Resilience & Reliability
  • Investment, Economics & Jobs
  • Supply Chain Interdependencies
  • Data Framework
  • Asset Management
  • Risk Management
  • Public Private Partnerships
  • Future and Emerging R&D Capabilities

This conference will serve as a forum to examine the use of performance indicators in maritime transportation and waterways management, and will build on PIANC Report No. 111-2010, “Performance Indicators for Inland Waterways Transport.” Through collaborative input from stakeholders in government, academia, and the private sector, conference participants will explore how the Marine Transportation System and intermodal connectors perform through the application of performance metrics.
