New Working Group: "Interaction between offshore wind farms and maritime navigation"

PIANC has announced a new working group MarCom 161 "Interaction between offshore wind farms and maritime navigation" and is seeking volunteers.

The final report of the Working Group will provide an approach, guidelines and recommendations to assess the required maneuvering space in the vicinity of offshore windfarms and the minimal distance between shipping lanes and sea areas for offshore windfarms, in order to ensure a minimal risk level for navigation. Please see the "Terms of Reference" for more information on the group.

The U.S. Section can appoint a (1) Principal Representative, (2) an Alternate, and (3) a "Young Professional" — someone 40 and under. The Principal Representative should be able to attend meetings of the working group, which are usually held in a European city, approximately twice per year. PIANC USA does not provide travel or per diem expenses for working group participants, so this support must be provided by the individual or his/her agency/company.

The U.S. Section also encourages the official reps to set up a "U.S. Subcommittee" to assist with the publication.

If interested in serving as a U.S. Rep or on a subcommittee, please send a brief CV to Kelly Barnes at kelly.j.barnes@usace.army.mil (703-428-9090). Deadline for submission October 17, 2011.
