New Working Groups Announced - Call for Members

PIANC just announced two new working groups and is seeking volunteers (deadline April 15, 2010). Please see the "Terms of Reference" for more information on each group.

The US Section can appoint a Principal Rep (and an Alternate) and a "Young Professional" - someone 40 and under. We are also looking for potential members of a subcommittee who can assist the representatives with preparation of the U.S. portions of the working group report. The Principal Representative should be able to attend meetings of the working group, which are usually held in a European city, approximately twice per year.

PIANC USA does not provide travel or per diem expenses for working group participants, so this support must be provided by the individual or his/her agency/company.

If interested, please send a brief CV by April 15, 2010.

EnviCom WG 150: Green Ports, a practical guide for a sustainable seaport. (pdf, 258 KB) The objectives of the Working Group are:

  • Give, with a focus on seaports, a comprehensive definition of what a Green Port actually is and how it relates to its stakeholders, through collection of existing views and global trends;
  • Describe why Green Ports are necessary and how they will be more attractive for operations in the long run (sustainable development);
  • Define guidance on the need for and how to adopt a green ports philosophy;
  • Refer to best practices of 'climate change mitigation and adaptation' and 'environmental friendly and sustainability issues' from existing ports and their effectiveness and economic potential to be used as examples for other ports;
  • Include the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility and port re-construction or transformation phases and relevant aspects of port operations in the scope.

InCom WG 151: Impacts of seismic loads and vessel impact on lock gates. (pdf, 215 KB) The main objective of the WG is to define a general methodology for the analysis and design of lock gates and approach structures considering seismic loads and vessel impact.
