PIANC 125th Anniversary Western Hemisphere Event in Buenos Aires, Argentina

The Argentine Section of PIANC has organized a Seminar on "Sustainable Development of Maritime and River Port Infrastructure in Latin America" as part of PIANC's 125th Anniversary celebration. The conference will be held April 5 - 7, 2010 in Buenos Aires, Argentina in conjunction with the Sixth Argentine Congress of Port Engineering.

Robert Pietrowsky, Director of USACE Institute for Water Resources, will give a keynote address on the topic of "Navigation in the Context of Integrated Water Resources Management." Other U.S. papers to be presented include:

  • Implications of Panama Canal Expansion to U.S. Ports and the USACE efforts to Meet the Future Challenges by Kevin Knight, USACE.
  • A Modal Comparison of Domestic Freight Transportation Effects on the General Public by Craig Philip, Ingram Barge Company.
  • U.S. Waterway Funding Challenges: Implications for Latin America by David Grier, USACE.
  • Blair Hybebos Redevelopment Promect at the Port of Tacoma USA: Challenges and Lessons Learned by Jeannie Beckett.

There will be a strong Latin American presence and focus, with papers from not only Argentina, but also Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Panama, and Uruguay. Europe and Asia will be represented as well.
