News StoryYoung Professionals CornerPittsburgh, PA (July 2009):PIANC USA has organized a Young Professionals Happy Hour on July 15, immediately following the Annual Meeting. Please join us at 5:15pm in the Omni William Penn Hotel lobby bar for a drink before we head out together to the Networking Reception at PNC Park (home of the Pittsburgh Pirates). More information on the Annual Meeting: http://www.pianc.iwr.usace.army.mil/conann2009.cfm Vienna, Austria (Sept 2009):Young Professionals are invited to participate in the Technical Tours on the Danube offered 09 September 2009 during the Smart Rivers Conference in Vienna, Austria. Attending the conference? The technical tours are included in the conference agenda! Not attending the conference but interested in one of the technical tours? Young Professionals can join a tour free of charge without registering for the conference! One of following two tours may be selected. The tours run from 0800 to 1700 and lunch is included. Please note registration for the selected tour is required, separate from conference registration. More information on the conference and tours is available at http://smartrivers.org/. Tour 1: Port of Vienna and Danube Power Plant Freudenau
The first tour visits the Port of Vienna, the largest good distribution center in Eastern Austria and the Freudenau Hydro Power Plant, including the 4th largest lock on the Danube. In addition, while aboard the Vindobona vessel, attendees will enjoy a presentation of the Danube River Information Services and the Integrated River Engineering Project - two projects geared towards the modernization and improvement of inland navigation including the incorporation of ecological impacts.
Tour 2: Visit at the Industry Logistics Linz
The second tour visits ILL in Linz, a unique 3100-unit capacity, 312-meter long by 14.5 meter high depot located in the harbor offering direct access from street, water and rail, and the exhibition "danube on tour" aboard the vessel MS Negrelli, a floating exhibition mimicking the Danube waterways and habitat.
