John Headland is a Senior Vice President and Regional Manager responsible for Moffatt & Nichol Engineers' northeastern United States operations. With a career spanning 25 years as a port, ocean and coastal engineer, Mr. Headland's experience includes port planning, navigation channel design, dredging, reclamation, dredged material management, sedimentation, shore protection works and ship mooring/berthing. He also has extensive experience modeling tidal hydrodynamics, wave, sedimentation, water quality, moored vessel dynamics and ship maneuvering. Mr. Headland started with Moffatt & Nichol in 1980, served as the U.S. Navy's worldwide technical consultant for harbor and coastal facilities from 1996 to 1992, and returned to the firm in 1992 where he has served as Principal-in-Charge for numerous projects throughout the world. In his role with the Navy, he was responsible for planning and design guidance for the development of major waterfront facilities throughout the world and was responsible for updating NAVFAC design manuals to reflect state-of-the-art harbor and coastal engineering design methods. Mr. Headland was also an employee of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1977 to 1980.
Mr. Headland received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from George Washington University, graduating with Special Honors, and a M.S. in Civil Engineering from California State University. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the American Society of Civil Engineer's Coasts, Oceans, Ports, and Rivers Institute. Mr. Headland was honored in 1989 when he received Nava's Engineer of the Year award.
